Crafters, vendors, and visitors to the Rutland Point Craft Market in Negril will now enjoy the conveniences of newly renovated administration offices and sanitation facility, thanks to a J$7,000,000 renovation by the Sandals Foundation.
The works which include improved plumbing, installation of new sanitary conveniences, roof repair, new floors, walls, countertop finishes, and painting was made possible through proceeds from the Sandals Foundation’s Caribbean Artisan Collection – a programme offering local crafts sold within gift shops at Sandals and Beaches Resorts with proceeds being reinvested into other artisans, creative spaces and local craft markets across the Caribbean.
The programme fosters sustainable local craftsmanship, the preservation of culture, increased earning capacity for artisans and members within their value chain, as well as the overall livelihood opportunities for rural communities.
