Sandals Foundation and Nelson A. Ranger Summer Golf Camp
EXUMA, Bahamas - Sandals Foundation has once again partnered with the Nelson A. Ranger Summer Golf Camp to further the educational and personal development of the island’s youth.
The Camp, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, was hosted at Sandals Emerald Bay, August 6-10, 2019.
The programme engaged more than thirty youngsters, aged 7-17 years old to three days of indoor activities including arts and craft, music and reading. Participants also had two amazing days of junior golf where they learned new golfing skills and techniques.
Camp Founder, Nelson Ranger says the summer programme is aimed at the holistic development of its participants.
“The main goal of the camp is to empower and build the self-confidence of each child. This will, by extension, enhance their focus in their educational growth and development.” Ranger said.
With the Sandals Foundationa also celebrating ten years of service, Heidi Clarke, Executive Director says the partnership was a no-brainer.
“The Sandals Foundation has been a partner with the Nelson A. Ranger Summer Golf Camp since 2015. We share a common commitment to implementing sustainable programs that enrich and improve the lives of our youth.” Clarke said.
The golf camp is part of a broader scholarship Fund founded by Nelson in 2008 to support high school graduates on the verge of starting tertiary studies.
Scholarship recipients must hold a 3.0 or better grade point average and have an acceptance letter to a college of their choice. One student was awarded a full four-year scholarship this year to the University of the Bahamas bringing the total number of beneficiaries since the start of the program to eleven.
Recipients have been enrolled at colleges in the Bahamas, United States, Canada, China, and Barbados.
