Ocho Rios, April 2019 - The Sandals Golf and Jerk Festival, will return for its second staging on May 4th – 5th at the Sandals Golf and Country Club in St. Ann with a new and exciting format. Over two days, up to 90 adults and junior golfers will have the opportunity to play side by side with teams comprising of either two adults or an adult and a junior player, a first time experience for many golfers. They will be competing for exciting prizes including a brand new 2019 KIA Optima as a Hole in One prize.
“This year’s event is expected to be bigger than ever and it’s all for a good cause. With the support of our partners and sponsors, we are putting together a thrilling golf experience for all the players, mouthwatering jerk competition for the chefs and two full days of fun and comfort for the patrons,” said Heidi Clarke, Executive Director of the Sandals Foundation.
With two packed days of golf on the green, up to 20 jerk teams will also go head to head on Saturday in a Best Dressed Chicken-sponsored Jerk Festival, competing for $50,000 cash and other exciting prizes. Golfers and patrons will enjoy a Starbucks Coffee Terrace, CPJ Luxury Lounge and Happy Hour and much more. Not to be left out, children under 10 will be kept busy by Sandals Golf Pro in a Drive and Putt competition.
The fundraising event is a continuation of the Foundation’s yearlong 10th anniversary celebrations with all proceeds going toward strengthening the stroke prevention and rehabilitation program at the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital Physiotherapy department and the Sandals Foundation Care for Kids Golf Program.
“Studies have proven that physiotherapy intervention is very effective in restoring functional abilities in stroke patients and with the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital Physiotherapy department being the only center of its kind serving residents in the St. Ann region, we are very happy to be supporting them to purchase critical equipment which will help the entire community,” Clarke said.
The Physiotherapy department serves over 4000 residents annually and in addition to providing critical equipment, the Foundation will also support the department in its public awareness campaign to encourage residents to lead healthy lifestyles in order to reduce their chances of having a stroke.
Proceeds will also go toward the Sandals Foundation Care for Kids Junior Golf Program which for the past decade has engaged young men and women in the game of golf, working to develop life skills such as discipline and team work, and also provide them with opportunities to receive academic scholarships.
Golf Registration opens on Friday April 5th at the Jamaica Golf Association located at the Constant Spring Golf Club, ATL Automotive (Oxford Road), the Sandals Golf and Country Club in St. Ann and Fontana Pharmacy (Kingston, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Mandeville).
The event is also supported by Sandals Resorts, Beaches Resorts, Rainforest Seafoods, WATA, Island Routes and Tropicars and endorsed by the Jamaica Golf Association and pro golfer, Greg Norman. The event is endorsed by the Jamaica Golf Association.
