Our Chairman, Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart may be best known for the indelible mark he made on the tourism industry but he was also a dynamic force in shaping the Caribbean through his passion for service to the people who call this region home.
A true servant, his personal examples of giving back to others made outreach a way of life and a compulsory part of the Sandals business model. The inception of the Sandals Foundation in 2009, formalized a culture that had already permeated throughout the corridors of Sandals Resorts International since the first resort opened in 1981.
With the incredible support of team members, the foundation has positively touched the lives of close to a million Caribbean people through targeted developmental programmes in community, education and environment.
Continuing the Gordon ‘Butch’ StewartLegacy of Love
The philanthropic legacy of our Chairman lives on as we continue to galvanize the power and love of our team members, donors, guests, travel agents and partners to inspire hope. In the spirit of this giant of a mentor, we have also created two avenues to honour his work.
Your kind donation to The Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart Tourism & Hospitality Scholarship in partnership with the Sandals Corporate University will carry on this maverick’s legacy of furthering the development of today’s young professionals through reputable education and training programs.
You can also celebrate his love for the ocean by donating to Marine Conservation and support the preservation of our beautiful Caribbean Sea.
Together, through our work to empower people, build the capacity of our communities and protect the Caribbean’s precious resources, we will keep his legacy of love alive.
“All You Need Is Love”
We are full of gratitude for Mr. Stewart’s leadership and his constant “yes” to Philanthropy. His legacy is enshrined in every eyesight we have restored, in every smile we have saved, in every child whose mind has been opened.
He was a true philanthropist that contributed significantly to our country, and in particular, the education sector
We have felt extremely privileged…Under Butch Stewart's leadership, the Sandals Foundation married good business with good philanthropy and supported our group psychotherapy program for child victims of sexual abuse, and our Child Helpline, from their inception
"A second chance at life" - Since 2018, the Foundation has come alongside us at Jabez House, helping us provide access to alternative economic opportunities for ladies in the sex worker community, ultimately helping to facilitate their transition from [that industry]. Breaking barriers, creating opportunities, establishing and empowering communities! We are eternally grateful!
