Courtney's Quest was launched by Courtney Sadler a child cancer survivor, who embarked on a mission to increase awareness about children's cancers. The goal is to raise funds for cancer research at SickKids Hospital and assist Camp Trillium to continue to support Children who are cancer survivors and their families. Courtney displayed incredible courage and determination in her own battle against cancer. She fought through seven grueling months of chemotherapy to treat her Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Her strength of character and perseverance is an inspiration to us all, and is a reminder that with support, cancer can be beaten.
With a goal of building capacity to better diagnose and treat children with cancer and serious blood disorders across the Caribbean, the Sandals Foundation has been instrumental in funding two main initiatives – the creation of a telemedicine room in St. Lucia so local medical experts can present patient cases to SickKids for advice and, most recently, funding the training of who will be the first and only paediatric oncologist in Barbados after completing a two-year fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
